How to Treat West Nile Virus

  1. Step 1

Go to the hospital. Serious cases of the West Nile virus can only be treated by medical professionals at the hospital. If your symptoms are severe, do not hesitate to visit your local hospital.

  2. Step 2

Get rest. Some cases of the West Nile virus are not as serious and can go away on its own, as long as the person inflicted with the virus takes the precautions to get healthy. This includes getting a healthy amount of sleep each night.

  3. Step 3

Drink plenty of fluids. Drinking plenty of water and other fluids will help to build the immune system and fight the virus. It is important to stay hydrated throughout the duration of the West Nile virus.

  4. Step 4

Take a pain reliever. Pain relievers, which also contain medicine for headaches, migraines and fever should also be utilized while one has West Nile. This will help control the symptoms of the virus as the virus is treated.

  5. Step 5

Keep your airways clear. It is important to make breathing as easy as possible to prevent further complications and for treatment of the West Nile virus. Don’t smoke or be around any allergens while treating the virus.

  6. Step 6

Prevent secondary infections. The West Nile virus can be treated if no other infections develop. It is important to keep your immune system strong, so you can prevent infections such as pneumonia and urinary tract infections and speed up your recovery.
