How to Create an Ozma Costume

Ozma is the rightful ruler of Oz! That is established in the movie "Return to Oz." This film is from 1986, and it starred Fairuza Balk as Dorothy. She is a younger Dorothy than Judy Garland was in "The Wizard of Oz," but "Return to Oz" is true to the original stories and books. Ozma was a character in the books and she is a beautiful character in the film. As long as you have a crown with the word Oz on your head, people will easily recognize your character. It will be especially recognized by those who were children in 1986.

Things You'll Need

• Sparkle letter stickers of "O" and "Z."
• Tiara (with enough room on crown for the sparkle Stickers)
• Emerald green dress
• Green socks or panty hose
• Ruby or silver slippers
• Long, blond wig
• Oz necklace

Instructions

1. Go from toe to head. Start with your feet. Put on green socks or hose. Adorn your feet with either silver or ruby slippers. The slippers were silver in the books, but the slippers were red in both "Return to Oz" and "The Wizard of Oz." While Ozma does not necessarily have to wear those slippers, it is a nice and recognizable touch to an Oz costume.

2. Put on an emerald green dress. Ozma should match her kingdom so make sure the dress is formal and beautiful. Ozma is a ruler and she should look like a royal princess.

3. Put on a necklace. It is easy and inexpensive to have a necklace custom-made to say "Oz." Since this is likely to be a one-time costume, don't spend a lot of money for gold or silver. Simply use "costume" jewelry.

4. Place and secure a long, blond wig on your head. Ozma has flowing blond hair that is as lovely as she is. Brush it and style it simply.

5. Crown yourself as Ozma. Get a tiara, and adorn it with stickers of "O" and "Z." Wear it proudly. This makes you recognizable as Ozma, the queen and rightful ruler of Oz.
