Organize a Raffle

Having a raffle can be both fun for everyone and profitable for your fund raising cause if you follow these simple steps. The idea is to get an item that most people would love to own especially if they got it for only a few cents, and sell as many tickets as you can. A raffle is only profitable if you sell more tickets than the item costs, or you get someone to donate the raffled item.

Things You'll Need

  • A Roll or two of standard raffle tickets
  • 1 Grand prize to be raffled
  • Signs

Instructions

  1. Organizing A Raffle

    • 1

Obtain an item to be raffled. You can either purchase the item or get someone to donate the item. The most popular things to be raffled are TV's, stereos, game consoles, trips or vacations, or cash.

    • 2

Set a day and time the item will be raffled off. Decide whether the winner must be present or not. Determine the price of the raffle tickets and if there should be a quantity discount. For example they can be 25 cents each or five for a dollar. The latter method will increase your profit.

    • 3

Make signs giving all the information and place them in appropriate spots in and around your facility.

    • 4

Word of mouth goes a long way, so let everyone know about the raffle and ask them to please pass the information on to those they know and work with.

    • 5

Display the object to be raffled so people can see what they are spending their money trying to win. They are more likely to buy more tickets if they can see the item.

    • 6

When a winner is chosen ask if they will allow you to display their name as the winner. You want to let everyone know that the raffle was done honestly.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the item was donated you will want to post that on the signs as well with the name of the person or company who gave the donation. This will please them and allow the proper thanks to be given.

  • Immediate family of those running the raffle, including themselves should be prohibited from buying tickets. If they are not , and they should happen to win, foul play will be suspected.
