Determine how much gold you have to sell. Weigh your gold using an accurate jeweler's-type scale if possible.

Look for the karat stamp on jewelry and other pieces of gold. Most jewelry has a stamp somewhere on it that will identify its gold content. 24 karat gold is pure. A lot of jewelry is 14 karat gold, meaning it is 14 parts pure gold and 10 parts some other base metal. 10 ounces of 14 karat gold only has 5.833 ounces of pure gold. Using your pocket calculator work out how much pure gold you have.

Look in the business section of your local newspaper or on the Internet and find out what today's price for spot gold is. The price you find will be the price being paid per ounce on the open market for pure (24 karat) gold. Multiply the number of ounces of pure gold you have by the current spot price to determine approximately how much your gold is worth. Understand that buyers will not pay full spot price. What you will be looking for is the buyer who will pay closest to the current spot price for gold.

Contact local coin dealers, bullion dealers, pawn shops and jewelry stores and ask how much they are currently paying for 24 karat gold. Put the words "selling gold" into any search engine to get a list of gold buyers on the Internet. Send several of them an email asking how much they are paying for 24 karat gold. Ask them what their discount is off of the current spot gold price. In this way you will be able to compare all of your potential buyer's more easily.

Choose the buyer who is willing to pay closest to the full spot price for gold and make your deal.

Tips & Warnings
If selling to a private party, do not allow the transaction to take place in your home. Conduct your business at a local coin dealer's store or in the lobby of a bank.
If selling gold to a private party do not accept any form of cheque. Even a cashier's cheque or a certified bank cheque can be easily forged. Only accept cash.

There is a company called Exclusively Gold that is based out of Calgary, not a nationally owned company. They have police checks and a business license with the City of Calgary. They are professional and pay you on the spot for the gold you are selling. It is nice having them come to your home and you can decide if you want to sell the gold items or not. They challenge anyone to find a better price than what they payout per gram. -

Selling gold is really easy if you host a gold party. Gold Party Princess is licenced and has had police checks done on their franchisees. Many other companies do not do this. I would want to feel safe if someone was coming to my home to offer a gold buying business at a party I would host. Gold Party Princess pays the best price on gold and shares the profit equally with the host.
