How to Make Sausage Calzones
If you follow the easy steps below you can make Sausage Calzones that your family will think you got from a real Italian Pizzeria. They are quick and simple to make and go great with a nice green salad and some chilled wine. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1 1/4 Cups warm water
- 1 Package active dry yeast
- 2 Teaspoon Extra Virgin olive oil
- 1/2 Teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 Cups flour
- 3/4 pound bulk Italian sausage
- 1 Can of tomato sauce
- 2 Cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 Cup Parmesan cheese, shredded

Making The Calzones

Mix together yeast and water and stir till yeast is dissolved. Slowly add 3 cups of the flour. Beat until dough is smooth. Cover and allow to rise for about 40 minutes.

Cook crumbled sausage in frying pan until it's browned and set aside and let cool.

Preheat the oven to 500 degrees. Grease or spray a baking sheet. Sprinkle flour on surface you're working on and place dough on it, covering the dough with flour too. Separate the dough into four pieces and roll each piece out until you have a circle of about 10 inches, brush them with olive oil.

Put tomato sauce, sausage and cheese on one side of each dough circle, then slightly wet the edges and fold the dough over.

Use a fork to press the dough around the edges and pierce each one. Place them on the baking sheet and brush more olive oil on them. Bake in oven until browned about 8 minutes. Makes 4 servings
