Things You'll Need:
- Motocross bike
- Ramp
- Helmet
- Protective gear
-
Step 1
Check your ramp and down ramp for any soft spots or uneven areas before you jump. Check your jump landing to ensure that you have plenty of room to land the jump at a high speed and that your ramp provides enough lift to execute your jump.
-
Step 2
Take a few short practice runs at the ramp at low speed to get a feel for the transition and to gain a better sense of the speed you will need to safely clear the ramp.
-
Step 3
When you are ready to take the jump, always keep your body centered in a position that is comfortable and allows you to see your landing and follow through safely.
-
Step 4
Keep your head up and body centered over the bike as you approach the jump on your motocross bike. Do not position yourself too far over the handle bars. Keep your feet securely on the pegs.
-
Step 5
Control your bike through the jump and begin to sight your landing immediately as you lift off from the ramp.
-
Step 6
Maintain control of the bike as you approach your landing and angle your bike so it lands flat on the down ramp, or if landing on the ground, make sure your rear tire touches first. Always land in an upright position and keep your throttle speed up for a smooth and gentle touchdown.
