How to Activate Microsoft Vista

Microsoft is one of the top leaders in computer software and its newest program Vista only adds to their lead over the competition. Now many computers are coming with Vista already installed, including those computers sold by Dell. However you can choose to install the program yourself on an older computer. Once you install the software Microsoft gives you exactly 30 days to register and activate the program. If you forget to activate it, you’ll end up with a program that doesn’t work as expected. Lucky for you, activating Vista is incredibly easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Push your mouse down to the Start Menu and click on the button. You can tell the start menu by its small Microsoft flag in the lower left hand corner of your computer screen.

    • 2

Select the computer button from your start menu. You should see a number of different programs such as your media player or word processing software. Look to the right and you’ll see areas specific to your computer. Click on the button or icon labeled 'computer.'

    • 3

Look at the top of the toolbar and you should see an option labeled as 'system properties'. Click on that button and you’ll see several options appear. Look for the icon that says “Activate Windows Now” and click that.

    • 4

Choose how you’d like to activate your Windows Vista by selecting one version from your list. This will take you through the easy activation process and all you have to do is follow the simple instructions and fill out your personal information.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can still continue to do other things while your Vista program is activating, but your other programs might run a little slower than usual.

  • Don’t put off activating your Vista until after the 30 days have passed unless you want to constantly see the program pop up on your screen, reminding you that it needs to be activated.
