The sun's UV rays are incredibly destructive to your skin cells. How can you help protect yourself and those you love?

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wear sunscreen! SPF stands for the sun protection factor, and typically, the higher the number is usually better. Make sure that the sunscreen you buy protects against both UVA and UVB rays, as some sunscreens only protect against UVA rays.

  2. Step 2

Limit your time out in the sun. Kids should be outside in direct sunlight no more that three hours a day. Perhaps even less would be ideal. Most of the damage to your skin cells comes from sunburns you got when you were young. Cancer takes time to develop, so protect your kids while you can.

  3. Step 3

Wear sunscreen even on cloudy days. It may not seem necessary, but the sun's UV rays actually can penetrate the clouds, causing damage. Better safe than sorry.
