Things You'll Need:
- computer with internet access
-
Step 1
The AVG free anti-virus can still be obtained, but it has moved up in size and it is known as 8.0 now. However, good luck in downloading it, as the only copy after umpteen attempts at downloading in that which the file was completely sent to my computer--came out corrupt.
This is available at free.grisoft.com -
Step 2
There are other programs available I have not tried but are recommended by various sites like Avira and Avast. These have links to them from sites like Sofotex or Thefreesite.com.
-
Step 3
Or there is the option of doing what I did. I decided to download the newest Clamwin that's considered portable. It downloaded fine and installed fine. I consider it a really good free anti-virus program. I recommend trying it! It's available from Clamwin.com.

on 7/4/2008 Good article - I am always surprised that there are still people with unprotected computers. We have 8 computers/laptops in our home and 7 of them have been using AVG Free for years. It has caught viruses, cleaned viruses and runs in the background unnoticed. The 8th computer has been using Avast for two years and I have no complaints with that program either. Thanks for the info!
