These German Chocolate Caramel Bars are so decatant and will satisfy the utmost sweet-tooth craving!

Your guests will be begging you for this dessert bar recipe when you serve it at any gathering!

Perfect for holiday celebrations, bake sales, pot-luck dinners, or anytime!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 pkg. German Chocolate cake mix
  • 1 -1/2 c. chocolate chips (1 bag)
  • 1 bag caramels (melt in top of double boiler)
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1/3 c. evaporated milk
  • 3/4 c. melted butter
  • 1/3 c. evaporated milk
  1. Step 1

    Combine caramels and 1/3 c. evaporated milk in saucepan and melt. Set aside.

  2. Step 2

    Mix by hand:
    Cake mix, butter, 1/3 c. evaporated mil, and walnuts. Batter will be very thick.

  3. Step 3

    Bake 350 for 6 minutes.
    Sprinkle chocolate chips over crust, drizzle caramel over mixture. Spread remaining batter over it (use hands if necessary).

  4. Step 4

    Return to oven for 18-10 min. Cool and refrigerate 30 min. to set caramel then cut. Use Swiss Chocolate cake mix. Put cookie sheet underneath pan when baking.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use Swiss Chocolate cake mix.
  • Optional ~ Top with Coconut, Nuts, or more Chocolate Chips

on 1/15/2009 I just have one problem with this recipe...it's incomplete. I'm just guessing, but you put half of the batter in the oven for 6 minutes, then put on the choc chips and the caramel, then layer on the other half of the batter. This sounds really messy. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm hoping for the best. At least it will taste good. Uh, also, just guessing again, but I'm going to use a 13x9 pan. Wish me luck!
