There are many audio properties used in Premiere Pro that you can set up to be automated. These include volume, pan, and mute settings and all effect options. Modes are set at the top of each track, in the track’s menu, and you do this as a sequence is playing in the Audio Mixer panel. As adjustments are made, Premiere Pro records the changes by adding Keyframes to your tracks.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the Timeline panel and drag the current time indicator to the point where you want to start recording the automated changes. You can set In and Out points, and use only a segment of your choosing, or automate an entire sequence or project.

  2. Step 2

Go to the Audio Mixer. Locate the track you want to make automated changes to. Under the name of the track is a drop down menu for you to choose an “automation mode” from. Choose “Write.” This mode will record any adjustments made and create track Keyframes in the Timeline panel.

  3. Step 3

To begin automating properties, click on the Play button. It is located along the bottom of the Audio Mixer panel. If you want to play the sequence in loop, click the Loop button.

  4. Step 4

Adjust the automatable property options as the audio plays back, and when finished, click the Stop button. For example, with automation set to Volume, drag a track’s volume Keyframes up or down while playing. Premiere Pro tracks the changes with the automated adjustments.

  5. Step 5

To see the changes, move your current time indicator to the beginning of where you started making changes, and then click the Play button.
