1
Set the tablesaw blade at a 45-degree angle. Set the fence 20 inches away from the inside corner created by the blade. Cut all four sides of one oak board at a 45-degree angle; this board will be the top of the end table. On the other four boards, cut three sides of each board at a 45-degree angle. The sides that are not beveled will sit on the floor.

2
Glue one edge of the end table's top board to a beveled edge of one of the other boards. Be sure the non-beveled edge is placed so that it can stand on the floor. Then glue the next board to the beveled edge of the top board, and the beveled edge of the board connected to it. On the last board, you will be gluing three beveled edges. Be sure the non-beveled edge is opposite the top board so that it can stand flat on the floor. Use clamps to secure the boards in place. The dry time is listed on the bottle of glue.

Screw the four 19-inch oak boards to the inside vertical corners of the table. One end of each of these boards should be touching the floor when the table is placed upright. Use four screws for each 19-inch oak board, two screws into each side of the table that it is touching. These boards will provide lasting durability to your table.

Screw the 17-inch oak boards to the inside top corners of the table. They should fit between the 19-inch boards perpendicularly, and require four screws per board. Be sure there are two screws into the tabletop, and two screws into the side of the table.
-
5
Sand the outside of the table with medium-grade sandpaper, and then with fine-grade sandpaper. Always sand with, or parallel to, the grain.
-
6
Wipe off the table and apply the stain. Once the table has the desired amount of coats, apply the polyurethane and let it dry.
