The ukulele is originally from Portugal. It migrated to Hawaii on ships and later became the main instrument used in Hawaiian music. Here's how to play a G chord on a ukulele in just a few easy steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Sit down and place the ukulele on your lap with the strings facing forward and away from your body. Hold the body of the ukulele underneath in the center with your left hand.
Step2
Place the top of the neck of the ukulele in your right hand between your thumb and index finger.
Step3
Put your right middle finger between the first and second frets on the bottom string (the "A" string).
Step4
Place your index finger between the first and second frets on the second string from the top (the "C" string).
Step5
Put your ring finger between the second and third frets on the second string from the bottom (the "E" string).
Step6
Hold your fingers in place and strum with your left hand. That's a G chord!

Tips & Warnings

  • The ukulele strings from top to bottom are usually tuned to G, C, E and A.
  • Frets are the silver metal strips that go across the neck of the ukulele.
  • Playing the ukulele sitting down is a lot easier than standing up.
