Part of the renovation or rejuvenation of a mobile home is replacing light fixtures. In a market that is inundated with various styles, shapes, colors and practicality it is important to know what to look for before heading out to the local marketplace to find what is needed. Flush mount fixtures are popular due to the space saving feature they all possess and are installed the same way regardless of the type of home they are in.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Light fixture
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Wire nuts
  • Electrical tape
  • Step ladder
  • Wire strippers

    Locate Circuit Box

  1. Step 1

Find the circuit box and turn off the electricity. Before removing the old fixture, locate the electrical circuit box and move the breaker that controls the electrical current to the fixture to the ‘off’ position. Return to the fixture and flip the light switch to be certain the electrical flow has been stopped.

  2. Step 2

Place the step ladder under the light fixture and climb to a comfortable position to reach the light fixture without straining. Remove the globe by loosening the screw(s) that hold it in place. Next, remove the bulb(s).

  3. Step 3

Find the screws. After the bulb(s) have been removed, locate the screws that hold the light fixture to the ceiling and remove them. Let the fixture hang to locate the wire connectors.

  4. Step 4

Remove the wire connectors and place the old fixture out of the way. Attach the new fixture to the electrical wires with the wire nuts and wrap them in electrical tape.

  5. Step 5

Secure the fixture to the ceiling with the screws that came with the light fixture, or the screws that held the old fixture in place. Place the bulb(s) in their sockets and test the fixture by turning the breaker to the ‘on’ position.

Tips & Warnings
  • Needle nose pliers are sometimes needed to loosen old connections.
  • A screw gun can be used to replace the fixture but is not necessary for the task.
  • Never work with “live” wires to prevent electrical shock.
