How to Be Comfortable at a Nude Beach
Many people can't be comfortable at a nude beach or nudist resort. The most common reason is a fear that everyone there is going to be somehow perfect, and your body will be too fat or weird to fit in. Feeling self conscious about nudity is very common. It's also quite irrational and once you get through the basic hangups, being nude outdoors and on a beach is a wonderful and freeing experience.

How to Be Comfortable at a Nude Beach
-
1
Bring a friend. It might be even easier if it's someone who is experienced with public nudity but anyone you are relaxed with will provide excellent moral support for your first time.
-
2
Lay out your towel and get undressed sitting down. This won't mark you as a first timer and is less daunting than standing tall and disrobing. You will realise that nobody is really paying any attention to you anyway, so get used to it! You will also realize very quickly that there are no perfect bodies and people of all shapes, sizes and ages enjoy sunning themselves and being out in the fresh air clothing-free.

3
Use plenty of high SPF suntan lotion, even if the day is overcast. It goes without saying that you need to protect parts of your body that have never seen sunlight. Reapply as often as you need to. It's no fun getting your tender areas sunburned.
-
4
Relax. Sit and watch the waves. Read a book or magazine, or chat with your friend. When you are nicely warmed by the sun, walk along the waters edge or go for a swim. There is something truly special about swimming naked.
-
5
Leave the camera at home. Photography is frowned upon at nude beaches and prohibited at some naturist resorts. If you really feel the need for a photographic momento, be discreet and make sure there is nobody else in the background when you take your shot.
-
6
Use an extra towel for coverup. Many men are afraid that they will get inappropriate erections. This is actually very rare (and unremarkable if it does happen.) Having a towel handy will help a man feel more comfortable, just in case. Also use a towel to sit on in communal areas like picnic benches or public beach chairs.

7
Be appropriate. Don't assume that just because everyone is naked, you can act as if you're in a bar. In fact, many nude beaches are family friendly places and there's a good chance there will be children there too. Just be polite, friendly and natural (it will feel quite normal very quickly.)
-
8
Practice basic beach etiquette. Pick up your trash and use an ashtray or empty pop can for your butts if you are a smoker. Don't have conversations on your cell phone loud enough for half the beach to hear.
-
9
Wear a minimum of clothing if you are truly uncomfortable. Be aware that if you are the only person on the entire beach wearing something, you will be noticed. In fact by wearing clothes when everyone else is naked, you'll draw attention to yourself. However, quite often there are people who like the ambience of a nude beach but don't feel brave enough to walk around completely nude so chances are you won't be the only one.
