All little kids know how to make cute snowmen at winter time. Why not teach them how to make the cute snowmen in a new way? Making wax paintings is not only fun and different, but it also teaches the kids how wax works. It shows them how the paint is resistant to the wax and by using both paint and wax you can create a fun new picture.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wax Crayons
  • Paint
  • Paper
  • Paint brush
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Lay your paper out across the table. Get out your crayons and begin with the white one. Draw some white snow across the bottom of your paper.

  2. Step 2

Draw your snowman on top of your pile of fallen snow while you have your white crayon out.

  3. Step 3

Use your black crayon to add a hat, eyes, mouth, and snow buttons. Use an orange crayon to color in a nose and a blue crayon to give the snowman a scarf. If you want your snowman to have some arms use brown like a tree branch.

  4. Step 4

Add some white dots all over the picture to show falling snow.

  5. Step 5

Add a little bit of water to some blue paint and mix it thoroughly.

  6. Step 6

Paint the picture with the blue paint. Don't worry about the paint getting on your drawing because the wax will keep the paint from sticking in those areas. This technique will make your picture stand out.

  7. Step 7

Set your picture out to dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • Completely cover your work area in newspaper so you don't damage any surfaces.
  • Wear a smock or an apron to protect your clothing.
  • Don't use thick paint on these paintings. Adding a little bit of water can thin out just about any paint so that the paint won't stick over the wax.
