How to Throw a Party without Alcohol

Whether you drink or not, you have, at one time or another, probably been invited to or attended a party or celebration with alcohol. And if you have been to those parties you have probably seen the one or two guests who have had too much to drink and done something to harm themselves or others in one way or another. Maybe you were that one and want to overcome your drinking habits. Here are a few steps to throwing an alcohol-free party and allowing your creative mind to make the party fun.

1. Decide now to throw your next party without the alcohol. This can be a scary thing to do because you never know how people will react. You may think they will ridicule you, but history shows they will respect you.

2. Tell a close friend your idea. This way they can help you plan it and support you.

3. Make invitations that look like a can of juice and send them to your closest friends. On the invitation make sure to let them know this is an alcohol-free party and instead of booze, there will be juice. Or ask everyone to bring juice, and tell them the more unique the better.

4. Have a juice tasting where everyone makes or mixes their juice and tests them out.

5. Go back to the basics, bobbing for apples; or playing Twister or Win-Lose-or-Draw or pin the tail on the donkey. Even adults will have fun with the simplest games and without the alcohol.

Tips & Warnings

• Raid your game closet and pull out those old games you haven't played in years. Chances are they are perfect for your juice party.

• While having fun, make sure you are adamant about no alcohol. And if this decision to avoid it is for personal reasons like trying to quit, take a moment during the party to explain it to your guests. Your example can go a long way to helping an alcoholic friend have the courage to stop.
