    How to Choose Embroidery Fabric

  1. Step 1

Consider the approximate weight of your project. If you are adding materials to your embroidery fabric such as buttons, beadings, bows, or even heavy designs, you will need a heavy embroidery fabric that will hold its weight. If the stitching is normal cross stitching throughout, you may not need the heavier fabric.

  2. Step 2

Know what type of finish you want your piece to be. Determine if you want a matte finish or more of a shiny finish. A matte finish is best if your piece is busy. If you prefer a more polished look that creates contrast between your background and the product, use a shiny finish.

  3. Step 3

Make sure the strength and durability of the weave is strong. A strong weave will help keep the piece together longer. Use velvet fabric if you need a heavy duty embroidery fabric. Velvet is very strong and will keep its shape nicely.
