1. Find the title for the car. If you have this lying around, you will need it when they come to pick it up. If you do not have the title anymore, you need to file for a lost title at the DMV and get it back before you donate. If your vehicle was purchased before 1972 however, you are not required to have a title available for it.

2. Sign the title. If you donate the car to charity without signing the title, it will not be able to go to another person.
