3. Plan to have a few nights of alone time at home. Going out is not always what a previously married man wants. He may enjoy nice dinners and a movie rather than the social scene. Take time to find out what he wants before the relationship advances past the first couple of dates.

4. Prepare to take a back seat to the ex-wife and the kids sometimes. It may be necessary for the estranged couple to do things with the children that cannot include a new partner. School events and other such events require both parents to be present without anyone else involved.

5. Create things to do that will not cost a lot of money. A divorced man usually has other financial obligations that need to be taken care of and the money may be tight. It is all right to offer to pay for things on occasion.
