You can't use or even get a credit card if you have poor credit...

Having poor credit can bar or hinder you from getting a good mortgage rate, new car or even a job. Reading this article will teach you how to fix your credit.

Instructions

Pay off outstanding debt. Outstanding debt can not only hold you back from doing what you really want to do, but it can also make your life miserable. Things like credit cards, second mortgages, bank loans and an array of other unnecessary debt needs to be avoided. It is recommended that you quickly but intelligently pay off unneeded debt so that you can have a better chance to keep your credit in tact.

Avoid getting into unnecessary debt. Each time anyone besides you inquires into your credit background, your credit score is affected. Banks, mortgage companies, jobs, housing officials, credit card companies and other companies all have tools to inquire into your credit background when you request credit in your name. If you are already in debt, it is recommended that you avoid extra, unnecessary debt, because not only is your credit affected by the debt you may already be in, but any additional debt you get into will negatively affect your credit score as well.

Obtain a copy of your credit report. A lot of people often suffer credit problems because they simply don't know what's going on in their credit report. Identity theft is growing in today's age and should not be ignored. It is recommended that you request a copy of your credit report often (every six months or so) in order to review it for incorrect information. If you note any incorrect items in your credit report you need to notify the Federal Trade Commission right away, do not wait.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember, identity theft is on the rise. Knowing what's in your credit history is a plus for when you get ready to buy a home or a car.
