How to Teach a Toddler to Play Catch
Every game your toddler plays is a learning experience for them. This is true even when playing catch with your toddler. For some toddlers learning to play catch can be a major milestone in their growth. Teaching a toddler to play catch can be an easy experience when you follow these simple steps.

Set up your play area to learn to play catch in a large area. This area should be free of items that can be easily broken by a flying ball.

Place your toddler about 2 feet away from you to start teaching him how to play catch. To keep your toddler's attention it is best to have him close to you when trying to teach him things. Your toddler will also be able to see how you play catch.

Show your toddler the ball. Be very excited when you do this step. He will likely reach for the ball. Bounce the ball lightly at your toddler's chest.

Cheer when your toddler finally picks up the ball. It will take many games of catch before he will be able to catch what you throw. Cheer every effort your toddler makes to learn to play catch.

Hold out your arms and tell your toddler to throw you the ball. Say this in a very happy high pitched voice. Your toddler's first throw towards you will likely miss the mark. Cheer you toddler when you go pick up the ball.

Start playing catch over. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 again.

Tips & Warnings
It will take some time for your toddler to perfectly play catch. Use any free time that you may have to play catch and work on those eye, hand coordination skills.
Do not yell at your toddler if he makes a mistake. This will discourage him from learning to play catch.
