The Double Strand Pikake Lei is most known for its beauty and abundant fragrance. It is mainly worn by and given to women at special events in Hawaii. Learn how to make a beautiful Double Strand Pikake Lei in just a few short easy steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 120 Pikake Flowers
  • 12 ft of white Thread
  • 6 inch Lei Needle
  1. Step 1

Cut the thread in half so that there are 2 6ft strands.

  2. Step 2

Take one strand and slip one end of the strand through the eye of the lei needle. Pull the thread through the needle until there is 3 ft on either side of the needle. Match up the two ends of the thread and tie them together in a knot 3 inches from the end.

  3. Step 3

Grab one Pikake Flower with the index finger and thumb. With the other hand, push the lei needle through the bottom center of the flower. Pull the needle through the top center of the flower while still holding the flower with the thumb and index finger. Continue to pull the flower to the end of the thread until it touches the knot.

  4. Step 4

Continue threading flowers until there is 3 inches of thread left. Tie the thread into a double knot after the last flower. The first strand is now complete.

  5. Step 5

Repeat this entire process to create the second strand.

  6. Step 6

Tie the two strands together in a double knot. Gently twist the strands together and tie a knot at the other end. Connect the two ends together.

Tips & Warnings
  • Tie a ribbon bow of any color where the two ends connect together to accentuate this beautiful lei.

on 7/23/2008 Wow! Very interesting! I have to admit, I was drawn to the article because of the title. I had no idea what a Pikake Lei was. Good job.
