Things You'll Need:
- A local music store to try out the guitar that suits you best

Step 1
There are a number of things that a person should be aware of before purchasing any guitar. One major attribute of a guitar that one should be aware of is the neck profile. This is the shape and thickness of the neck. The feel of the neck should be comfortable for the player. If it’s not a comfortable fit, it’s not going to be an enjoyable experience. Who’s going to play a guitar that’s uncomfortable? The neck profile is the one thing on a guitar that just can’t be changed (unless you’re familiar with shaping wood).

Step 2
One should also be aware of the action or string height. If the strings are too high off of the neck, it will take more energy to push them down. Most beginners will stop playing simply because the guitar is too hard to play. The action is what dictates how easy a guitar is to play.

Step 3
Finally, the most important attribute that one should check is the sound. The point of a guitar or any musical instrument for that matter is to make music. If one does not like the tone of the guitar, they should just put it down right there. There is no changing the tone of an acoustic. Look for a Lateral Tension Design (LTD) featured on the guitar which utilizes the tension of the strings to fully activate the soundboard creating a bright, lively tone.
