1. Dress conservatively. When you meet anyone, how you look is the first impression they get. When you’re going to meet your boyfriend’s parents you want to dress conservatively. You may be proud of all your assets; however, when heading to their house, keep it all under wraps. A nice blouse with slacks or capris or a simple dress is a good choice.

2. Avoid hot topics. It’s likely your boyfriend will tell you some of the things his parents feel passionate about. In many cases, your beliefs will be different. However, now is not the time to tell them you think their views are stupid. Keep conversation simple yet intelligent.

3. Don’t act clingy. Your boyfriend you may enjoy public displays of affection. However, those public displays aren’t appropriate in front of the parents. They make you look like a floozy. Holding hands or the occasional peck on the lips is okay. Just keep it G-rated.

4. Be polite. You’ve always heard that proper etiquette is important. Now, it’s more important than ever. Be sure to thank his parents for dinner and also for having you over. Offer to help his mother clear the table and clean up. It’s likely she’ll decline your offer but she’ll notice it and like it. They will think you’re a polite woman.

5. Allow your boyfriend to talk about the relationship and how serious it is. While you may want five kids, his parents don’t need to know that just yet.
