The use of protection sachets is centuries old. In the past, protection sachets were carried on the person to ward off disease, poverty and other misfortunes. The sachets were also buried outside the home, hung from doorways, or hung from the highest point in the house. In modern times, these sachets are still carried on the person, hung in the home, hung in doorways or carried in a vehicle. The purpose and intent of your making the protection sachet will determine the placement once the sachet is finished. For the purpose of this How To, we will walk through how to make a general protection sachet. The specific purpose for the sachet is up to you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A place where you will not be disturbed
  • Small muslin drawstring bag
  • Heather
  • Rowan
  • Rosemary
  • Ribbon of appropriate color
  • Bowl made from natural material (ie: wood)
  1. Step 1

Take a few minutes to sit and relax. If you feel the need, ask Spirit, or whichever Divinity you feel most comfortable working with, to guide your working. Before you begin, make sure that your mind is clear and your intent is focused.

  2. Step 2

Make sure you use the same amount of each of the three herbs. In a bowl made from natural material, mix the Juniper, Rowan and Rosemary by hand . As you mix the herbs focus your intent and purpose for this protection sachet. For example, if it is to guard your home, imbue the herbs with the energies of protection and safety.

  3. Step 3

If you have any kind of protective prayer, chant or spell that you are partial to include it at this point. Empower the sachet with your energies. Fill the muslin bag 3/4 full with the mixed herbs. As you fill the bag, keep your mind focused.

  4. Step 4

Once the sachet is filled and words spoken, pull the drawstring and close the bag. Tie the ribbon around the top of the sachet. If you are hanging the sachet, you can use the drawstring to hang it by. Bless the sachet.

  5. Step 5

Place the sachet where it is needed. If you asked for assistance with this working, be sure to thank Spirit!

Tips & Warnings
  • You do not have to use a muslin drawstring bag. You can also use a square of muslin cloth (appropriate dimensions for the size you wish) and a piece of ribbon. Follow steps 1 and 2. Place the herbs in the center of the square of cloth. Draw up the four corners and secure with the ribbon.
  • There are several other herbs that you can use other than those listed above. Some of those herbs are: Heather, Primrose, Sunflower, Hyacinth, Frankincense and/or Lemon Verbena. It is best if you use three herbs in combination with one another.
  • The color of ribbon used in this working was listed as that of appropriate color, use own preference. Generally, red is the color used, but we all have our own prefence for that which we have found to work best.
  • Do not attempt this or any other type of working while under the intent of any controlled or intoxicating substance.
  • Do not approach this or any other working with anger or malicious intent. Remember, that which you give out will return. Harm none.
