Pots are inexpensive and an easy canvas to work with.

In the summer and all year round, simple terra cotta pots are the perfect way to keep your flowers thriving. When you're ready to brighten your patio or yard flower pots, make a batch of puffy paint to add your creativity and individual style to your pots.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Tempura or Poster Paint in your choice colors
  • Mixing bowl
  • Pastry tube with tips or small squeeze bottles with fine tips
  • Terra cotta pots, old or new
  1. Step 1

Wash your pots if they need it or remove any tags on old pots. Give them a moment to dry completely.

  2. Step 2

Create your puffy paint. In your mixing bowl combine equal parts flour, salt and water. I usually use 1 cup of each. Combine the ingredients and then add color. You can make your batch all one color or use smaller bowls to make 4 or 5 different colors.

  3. Step 3

Put your puffy paint into a squeeze bottle with a fine tip or into a pastry bag with a tip. If you don't have either, you can use a ziplock bag. Cut the smallest amount of the tip of of one corner. If it's not big enough, you can always make another cut.

  4. Step 4

Draw on your pot in pencil first. This allows for you to make some mistakes and to refine your design.

  5. Step 5

Trace over it in puffy paint. Remember to keep your hand from dragging in the paint. It takes several hours to dry.

  6. Step 6

Leave your pots to dry overnight. Voila! You've created beautiful handmade pots that would cost much more if you bought them in the store.
