Many breeds of dogs are known for certain traits, such as Jack Russels for their energy. Obviously, Great Danes and other big dogs are good for the country or a big yard. Where you live should determine what breed of dog you should get. Apartment owners might want small dogs verses suburban homes wanting medium sized dogs. Dogs with mellow personalities are a good thing to have so it is easier to care for your pet.

  2. Step 2

Price ranges in dogs are another important note. Adopting dogs are a nice thing to do, but you need to be very specific about what kind of dog and the temperament of the dog. Sweet, passive and low-key dogs are perfect. You also want a very trusting dog. Chaotic dogs in the kennel or store are going to open up more, and really be crazy at home. Serene, mellow dogs will open up for you, and will usually be very fun. If you buy a dog, it should be between 200-800$. If it is any more, the dog is either a real gem, and is the puppy of a champion, or you're getting scammed. Any less, and the dog could have problems medically, or is a bully to kids, cats or other dogs.

  3. Step 3

Once you have a dog, training is a must. Getting a puppy may seem like more work, but the rewards are great. The dog will trust you more, be more of a friend than a pet, and will be trained exactly how you want it to be. A training class or a personal dog trainer can cost a lot of money, but it is mostly worth it. Your dog will be trained how you want it to be, and that will make you love it more, and spend more time with it.

  4. Step 4

Socializing your dog is very important. Pet stores, rides in the car, and dog parks are awesome ways to get your dog to know other people and dogs. This will prevent your dog from becoming to dominant over you and or other dogs and will make it more friendly toward other animals. If your dog is a bully, it will be hard to take it to the local park for a run.

  5. Step 5

    Love your dog!!!
