Consider over the counter treatments. There are a number of over the counter treatments available for treating gas. Gas can develop almost anytime after you eat foods that cause gas such as fried foods and beans. Often enough, over the counter treatments such as Gas-X can help reduce gas almost immediately. It is important that you discuss over the counter treatments with your doctor before you start them especially if you have heart or kidney disease and taking medication for such diseases.

Drink lemon water. Lemons are sour citrus joys that are used in lemonade (of course), cakes and even your favorite beverages. Did you know that lemons can be used to treat stomach gas? All you need to do is squeeze a half lemon (about 2 or 3 tablespoons) into 1 1/2 cups of water, stir and enjoy whenever you are experiencing gas pains. Natural lemonade, natural lemon drops and other things that have real lemon juice in it (no added sugar, only the natural sugar that comes with it) can also work in alleviating gas pains.

Ask your doctor about prescription treatments. Sometimes, over the counter medications are not enough to relieve severe and chronic stomach gas episodes. You need to talk to your doctor about prescription medications such as Reglan to move your gas along more quickly. However, leaving these chronic gas episodes untreated may not be wise especially if you have severe, gut wrenching pains that come with your gas episodes. At this stage, it may be more than just gas; it may be an autoimmune condition known as Crohn's disease. In order to determine if you have this condition you will have to tell you doctor about the symptoms you are having and the doctor will order tests to see if you have Crohn's.
