Step 1
First, make sure that baby has a safe enviroment to sleep in. Babies should sleep alone, on back, in a crib.
-
Step 2
Second, you will begin by establishing a regular bedtime routine such as Bath at 8, final bottle at 8:30 and then laying infant down or rocking infant to sleep around 9 (it is better to lay infant down)
Next, we all know what happens, baby will cry, and cry, and cry. The first night go in after ten minutes rub babies back, mumur softly then leave the room
The second night wait fifteen before you go in,
The third night wait twenty minutes
The fourth night, do not go in at all until baby is fully asleep just in see if baby is sleeping safe and sound -
Step 3
My main problem was my soon still wanted to eat three times a night at 5 months old. What I started doing is making the bottle less than 3 ounces each feeding, then two ounces and the third night none at all until after 6am. Bedtime is 9am with a bottle right before, and he can eat again after 6am. His eating was a habit, not nutrionally needed as he is 25 lbs when he was 5 months old.

Step 4
This will not work for everyone, judge your needs and then make an informed decision.
-
Step 5
I know how hard this is, I did it and in the end it was well worth it.

on 9/25/2009 If your baby's weight is good, you can try giving him water instead of milk at night.

on 9/21/2009 Babies definitely can need a night time feeding to feel full up to 12 months old despite what any books say! You should title this 'forcing your baby to sleep through the night' since they will natually sleep on their own by around 2 years old when teething ends. Read the Continuum Concept and the No Cry Sleep Solution.

on 4/7/2009 being in the pediatric medical profession parents need to look further into this before trying it. Babies are designed to eat every threee hours at first because their bodies need nourishment. Waqit a few months to try this and make sure you check that your baby is growing at a good rate. Check out different parenting styles and do whatever works best for you AND baby. heres a site i like:http://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/t130300.asp
