Hoorah, summer is here! It’s time to celebrate July as National Park and Recreation Month. Launched in 1985, across the U.S., parks and recreation facilities look at this annual event as the kick-off of summer. What a perfect time to get involved in sponsoring or participating in outdoor activities at your local park. Read on for some fun ideas of physical activities at a park near you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Park or open play area near you
  • Friends & family
  • Game/sports equipment as needed

Step1
Biking TEENS AND ADULTS: Basketball, softball, volleyball, Frisbee, swimming, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, paddle boating, archery, running, golf, field hockey, swimming, tennis, football, soccer
Step2
Hula Hoop YOUNGER CHILDREN: hula-hoop, red rover, tag
Step3
Picnic FUN FOR ALL AGE GROUPS: Picnic, watching birds, walking, camping

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember to take along sun screen, insect repellent, sun hats, bottled water.
  • Make sure that at least one person in your group has a cell phone in case of emergency

on 6/12/2008 I forgot about red rover. We'll have to play that some time. Two more fun games for young ones is Mother May I and red light green light. My kids love those! :)
