Reduce Energy and Save Money

Now is the perfect time to make a new start to lower your energy consumption and perhaps reduce your energy bill 25% or more! Get a quick start right away with small energy consumption changes that will amount to enormous savings.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn off the lights, unplug all electronics. They tend to use small amounts of energy even when not in full use.

  2. Step 2

Change to florescent bulbs. They last ten times longer than regular
bulbs and use much less energy. They are worth the extra cost in the
long run because of the increased savings.

  3. Step 3

Unplug all rechargers when not in use. These little devices are
convenient but slowly drain energy even when not in recharge mode.

  4. Step 4

Remember to change your air conditioner’ s filter during the summer. This will help the air conditioner run more efficiently.

  5. Step 5

Also change your furnace filter to increase efficiency when in
    use during the winter months.

  6. Step 6

Turn off the air conditioners and open the windows to let in air during cooler morning hours.

  7. Step 7

Close your blinds and curtains to insulate you from the heat during
the hottest part of the summer day or coldest part of the day during the winter months. These changes add to energy savings.

  8. Step 8

Place your air conditioners on the shady side of your house. The system
will not have to work as hard and will save energy.

  9. Step 9

Only use the dishwasher when it's completely full to help you
    save energy.

  10. Step 10

Don't keep doors to the outside open for long periods. This will
cause your air conditioner to work harder during the summer or your
furnace to consume more energy during the winter.

Tips & Warnings
  • Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use. These drain energy also.
  • Throw away batteries are money wasters and hurt the environment. Rechargeable batteries are more cost efficient and save you much more money in the long run.
