Getting a discount is something that most consumers support. When a consumer is face to face with a sales person, they have an option to haggle over the price or inquire about available deals. Online shopping initially had no similar recourse for the consumer until discount certificates. Now anyone can search for that great deal off and online. Here’s how to use an online discount certificate.

From Quick Guide: Discount Shopping
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Subscribe to email newsletters that feature the desired products. Many companies have made major efforts to cater to online shoppers by creating online campaigns around their products. Consumers only need to visit the company’s website, search for the product and enter their email into specified fields for future information on the product. This will often lead to a barrage of emails, so be sure to give an address that is appropriate for the influx of information. Discount certificates will periodically be offered with information on how to use them.

  2. Step 2

Determine the promotional code on the discount certificate as well as what it covers. Most discount certificates will have a number and a bar code on them. This gives the company the information they need to process the discount. Some discounts cover shipping while others cover the same product in several sizes. Read the fine print to determine the details.

  3. Step 3

Print the certificate for personal records. This needs to be on file in case there are any issues related to the ordering of the product. Keep this until the product is delivered and the charge has been completely processed at the consumer’s financial institution.

  4. Step 4

Compare the discount to other online offers as well as any traditional in-store offers. Make sure the discount certificate really offers a discount.
