Mayonnaise is great for dry or over-styled hair. By applying a simple, homemade mayonnaise shampoo and allowing it to sit on your hair for up to 15 minutes before rinsing it out, you can undo severe damage do to heat styling, climate issues and product use. In this article, we will discuss how to make mayonnaise shampoo.

  • 4 tablespoons of pure soap flakes
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons glycerin
  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • 3 tablespoons of mayonaise
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Spoon
  • Glass measuring cup
  • Air tight plastic container

    How to Make Mayonnaise Shampoo

  1. Step 1

    Boil the 1 1/2 cups of water.The easiest way to do this is to microwave the water on high for two minutes. Keep an eye on the water so that if it reaches a rolling boil before two minutes are up you can remove it from the microwave early.

  2. Step 2

    Pour the water into the mixing bowl. Be careful not to burn yourself as you do so.

    Stir in the soap flakes and the glycerin. Do not use a mixer or you will end up with a foamy mess. Keep stirring gently until the mixture has a smooth and even consistency.

  4. Step 4

    Mix in 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Continue to stir until the shampoo is creamy and smooth.

  5. Step 5

    Store the shampoo in an airtight plastic container. It must be refrigerated when you are not using it, and should not be kept for over 10 days. You can use this shampoo with your regular conditioner or make a complementary conditioner to accompany it.
