Flutter Kick Away from the Wall in Swimming

  1. Step 1

Start by taking a few steps away from the wall in water that is chest high. You should either have a kick board with you or you can straighten out your arms and cross your hands so that they make an arrow.

  2. Step 2

Place the kick board in the water in front of you and hold onto it. If you are not using a kick board place your hands in the water. Either option you will need to keep your head above the water and look straight towards the other side of the pool.

  3. Step 3

You will begin to flutter kick your legs while moving across the pool. Your legs should be slightly bent and moving quickly in an up and down manner. This motion will propel you across the pool.

  4. Step 4

Continue to flutter kick until you reach the other end of the pool. Repeat if desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stay in the shallow end of the pool until you are sure of yourself.
  • If you are a beginning swimmer please do not do this exercise alone. It is best to be accompanied by an experienced swimmer.
