Witchcraft is one of the world's oldest religions. A nature-based religion, that often reveres multiple deities of both genders, witchcraft has not always found acceptance in our predominantly Christian society. With more information about witchcraft becoming available and dispelling some of the "wicked witch" stereotypes, witchcraft is gaining in popularity to become one of the fastest growing religions. Learning more about these fascinating beliefs is easy and will let you know whether or not witchcraft is right for you.

Things You'll Need:

  • A journal

    Record Your Thoughts

  1. Step 1

Buy or make a nice journal to record your thoughts, feelings and questions throughout your studies. This journal will eventually evolve into your very own Book of Shadows.

  2. Step 2

Study the religion itself. Decide whether you want to use websites, books or a combination of the two as resources as you seek your path. Witchcraft allows for a lot personalization, so pay attention to what "feels right" for you and follow it.

  3. Step 3

Commune with the Divine by spending time outdoors. Camp, swim, hike, explore and meditate out in nature as much as possible. Be sure to note in your journal which things particularly inspire you.

  4. Step 4

Channel your focus. At some point you are going to want to choose what type of witchcraft you will want to practice. Wicca is the most commonly practiced type of witchcraft, but Kemetic witchcraft, based on the witchcraft of the ancient Egyptians, may also appeal to you. Another option, Tameran witchcraft, blends elements of ancient Egyptian witchcraft with Wicca and Eclectic witchcraft. Eclectic witchcraft allows for a more individual approach, allowing a witch to pick and choose from many different traditions according to her abilities or needs. There is no right or wrong choice. You are free to seek the path that's best for you.

  5. Step 5

Seek out other witches. As a new witch you may enjoy the guidance and direction a seasoned witch can give you. Check your local newspapers, bulletin boards, or community websites to find Wiccan or pagan gatherings in your area. If none is available, as may be the case in smaller communities, go on-line and take advantage of the many witchcraft message boards and chat rooms.

on 11/1/2009 Witchcraft is not a religion. Wicca is a religion. Neither one is satanic since neither one recognizes or worships the Christian god of evil.

on 10/20/2009 Witchcraft is not a religion. It is simply the practice of magick. Wicca is a religion that has ties to witchcraft, but not all Wiccans use magick or consider themselves witches either.

on 12/2/2008 Witchraft is a satanic practice even if performed unknowingly. In fact it often leads to demonic possession and other health problems. While witchcraft is currently being portrayed as a means of empowering a person it in fact surrenders the essence of a person to the will of demonic control. For anyone suffering from the effects of witchcraft there is hope for you in Jesus Christ. It is most important for you to allow for Jesus to save you by your accepting him as your Lord and Savior. Know that he came down from heaven and died to save your life which was dead in sin. This is no laughing matter. Your eternal soul is at stake and the consequences are very real. Please know that God loves you and the threats are very real all along the way but if you put your trust in God thru Jesus you will not only be saved but you will know true happiness like you never knew before.
