How to Connect a Turntable to a Mixer

Using turntables and a mixer can be challenging, but hooking them up is not. For as simple as this task may be, there are mistakes that can be made. Hooking your equipment up correctly is step one to enjoying that equipment.

  • Turntable
  • Mixer
  • RCA cables
  • Grounding wire

    How to Connect a Turntable to a Mixer

  1. Step 1

    Take RCA cable (red, white ends) and connect to the turntables OUT, matching the colors accordingly.

  2. Step 2

    Run the RCA cable to the mixer and plug into the PHONO input, again matching the colors accordingly.

  3. Step 3

    Connect the ground wire from the turntable to the appropriate spot on the mixer. This will usually be a twist-able knob that the metal U-shaped cable can slide under. Once the U-shaped end is in place, tighten the knob, securing the cable firmly in place.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are using additional equipment, like DJ software, you may have to plug the RCA's into the mixer's LINE input. Check with the instructions on the software.
