How to Tie a Ossel Knot

The ossel knot is a hitch knot, most often used in boating, to tie a smaller line to a larger line. It is a fairly simple knot to tie, and can be very useful.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Line
  • Hitch

    How to Tie a Ossel Knot

  1. Step 1

    Place the smaller line over the top of the larger line.

  2. Step 2

    Wrap the smaller line down underneath the larger line.

  3. Step 3

    Place the smaller line over itself.

  4. Step 4

    Pull the end of the smaller line back under the larger line.

  5. Step 5

    Bring the smaller line back over the larger line again.

  6. Step 6

    Bring the end of the smaller line over the top of the first loop you've already made with it, and beneath the second loop. Pull tight.
