Practice mixing as much as you can. Listen to the radio and CDs constantly. Try to duplicate other mixes you hear.
-
2
Offer to DJ for your friends and family's parties, weddings and other events. Make business cards and always have them with you to pass out to anyone who inquires about your skills.

3
Decide where and what you want to DJ for. Do you want to do weddings, parties and events, nightclubs or other venues? Study other DJs in the venues you want to work. See what it is they do and how the crowd responds.
-
4
Come up with a company name that readily identifies you as a DJ. Get a business license and have marketing materials such as postcards, flyers and new business cards made.
-
5
Join the local Chamber of Commerce and begin networking. Leave business cards at venues that have DJ in case they need to hire someone. Also have CDs of your work on hand to give to interested persons. Good luck! You'll start to get little gigs and those will lead to bigger ones and so on and so on. Stay focused and you'll get what you want.

Don't take on a job you're not qualified for (ex. doing christian music at a church when all you know is rap mixes)
You will be working all nights and weekends, so take that into consideration.
