You're determined to be a yogi/yogini but need a little extra time before class to get in the spirit. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for a Vinyasa yoga class.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Extra time
  • Water bottle
  • Yoga Mat
  • Towel

    Preparing for class...

  1. Step 1

Arrive 15 to 20 minutes before the scheduled class time. Allow time to get changed and find a place in the room where you feel comfortable. Check for vents of heat or air conditioning. If you like it hot or cool, move your mat to the appropriate place in the room.

  2. Step 2

Stretch. Vinyasa is a flow class, so you'll be moving a lot. Although typically the class will start out stretching, take 10 minutes to stretch on your own. Draw your attention inward, or rather take a few moments to scan the body.

  3. Step 3

Choose a place to focus your attention throughout the class. Usually your teacher will ask you to do this, but choose your spot before class so you can be ready to go. This spot can be anything--your right foot, your neck, your shoulders or your heart.

  4. Step 4

Drink water. Vinyasa is a cardio-type of yoga. You'll sweat. So If you feel shaky throughout class or sleepy, you're probably dehydrated.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bring your own mat! Students are sometimes preoccupied with the studio mats. If your hands are slipping or you don't like the smell or texture of the mat, prevent from happening by bringing your own mat (and your own towel).
