How to Write a Travel Checklist

Traveling to other places is exciting and, at times, stressful if you aren't fully prepared. Remembering what to pack, wear, or what errands to run before you go can add to worsening the travel experience. A travel checklist is a resourceful way to relieve some stress and enjoy your trip to the fullest.

Get Planning

1. Start planning early. A month in advance is a good time to start planning for a trip. This will allow you more time to think about trip specifics. You may also find better deals on travel accommodations if you haven't already done so.
2. Take care of all household affairs. Make plans for who will feed any animals left behind. Ask a neighbor to hold you mail or pick up your newspaper. If you are leaving children behind, reserving an approved babysitter and getting the kids used to the fact they will have a babysitter early on is thinking ahead of the curve.
3. Budget your trip and add that to your checklist. Everything that costs money, and can be thought about or foreseen, will need to be reviewed and planned for. Emergencies are always a possibility and will also need to be planned for.
4. Arrange for necessary documents. This includes items such as visas and passports. Make sure that you have a valid picture identification.
5. Include sites you will like to see or visit. Restaurants, parks, landmarks, and other tourist gatherings are a good place to start when looking for things to do at your destination. This will help to structure the trip and avoid wasted time.
6. Research local customs if you are going somewhere unfamiliar. Know the culture to avoid doing something that would be frowned upon. Consider bringing a travel dictionary if there is a different language spoken.
