Small reptiles can make great pets but unlike dogs and cats feeding them consists of more than just putting some food in a bowl. Proper nutrition is vital to their growth and health so it's important you understand how to feed them, here's how.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Crickets
  • Worms
  • Lettuce
  1. Step 1

Turn on any heat lamps or other lighting/heating devices you have over the reptile's aquarium or structure. Allow your pet to become active and fully awake.

  2. Step 2

Touch your pet and place your hands in the tank or structure so that the pet is accustomed to your hands and won't leap at you when you place food in.

  3. Step 3

Start by giving the reptile a few pieces of lettuce and/or carrots. Make sure it's only a few pieces. The vegetables are an appetizer for the main course.

  4. Step 4

Refill the reptile's water source so they can drink as need be. Place about five crickets or meal worms in the tank or aquarium. Allow your reptile to eat these.

  5. Step 5

Wait a few minutes then place another five crickets or meal worms in the tank. This is enough food for most reptiles, if your pet is larger you might need to do one more feeding. Repeat this feeding cycle weekly. Every few days though give your pet some vegetables or fruit. Good luck!

Tips & Warnings
  • Give the reptile a variety of foods, not just the same thing every feeding.
  • Don't hold the food tightly in your hand, the reptile very well might bite you.
