Birds, in general, are cute, beautiful, or majestic-- and that's just when they are sitting there! However, a bird's true beauty comes when he is in flight, soaring the skies free. Bird wings are engineering wonders and through this how-to, one will be able to draw a bird in flight easily.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Drawing pencil
  • Drawing paper
  • Small tortillion
Step1
Draw a swooping line upward as shown.
Step2
Draw a curved line stemming from the top of your swooping line. These lines are the beginning of wings.
Step3
Think of bird wings like the human hand. Hold your hand as the image shows. Notice how the thumb and fingers are. This is how a bird's wings are shaped in flight.
Step4
Add your secondary lines inside your primary lines, following steps 1 and 2 for the inside portion.
Step5
Add "humps and hills" in your wings to indicate texture.
Step6
Add your dark tones and blend and soften with your tortillion.
Step7
Add lines to indicate feather. Add your light midtones and light sourcing. Take your eraser and "wisp" all shading upward and blend with the tortillion.
