Perhaps you have had a computer hard drive that crashed unexpectedly. Or, you needed a specific bookmark or favorite stored in your web browser and did not have it on that particular computer. Mozilla Foxmarks offers a way to store all of your bookmarks on the web. Here are some simple tips to have a backup plan for your bookmarks.

From Quick Guide: Mozilla Firefox 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mozilla Firefox web browser
  • Internet
  • Computer
  • Bookmarks
  • Favorites
  1. Step 1

Sign up for a Mozilla Firefox web browser if you do not currently have this on your computer. It is free and takes about 10 minutes or less for the download to complete.

  2. Step 2
Tools menu is circled on the top of the screen.

Open up Mozilla Firefox and click "Tools" and scroll down to "Add ons" on the menu at the top of the screen. The" tools" menu is demonstrated in a photo included in this article.

  4. Step 4

Click the "Firefox Add ons" link. Type "Foxmarks" and begin to download this add-on for your browser. There is also a link within this article to take you right to the Foxmark Download page.

  5. Step 5

Shut down and reopen Mozilla firefox after Foxmarks has been installed. Set up a username and password you will remember.

Sign in and import all of your current bookmarks or favorites into Foxmarks. They will upload to an external server outside of your computer so you can access them on any computer that has Mozilla and Foxmarks installed.

  7. Step 7

Add a bookmark by going to "Bookmarks" and "bookmark this page," on the top of your screen, and then exit out of Firefox. You should see Mozilla automatically synchronizing your new bookmark. If you go to another computer, you should see it on there.

Tips & Warnings
  • Foxmarks will synchronize automatically on a schedule. You do not have to set this up.
  • Always update to the bookmarks on the server if given the choice. Those generally are the most current.
  • Do not synchronize when foxmarks shows you an error message on the bottom of your toolbar.
