Yoga is everywhere. But how can you expand your personal practice? As a new student, teacher or guru, a little time and dedication can help you expand your practice.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Expanding YOUR Practice

Step1
Read yoga magazines, such as Yoga Journal, Fit Yoga or even a health-based magazine, such as Men's Health or Women's Health. Practice poses as you see them and think of ways to connect poses already in your repertoire to the new pose.
Step2
Pick up the yoga deck. Flip through the deck and see the poses. Think of ways to link poses together. Use the deck to prompt your own creativity.
Step3
Take classes. Make it a habit to take classes on a weekly basis. Treat your classes as if you're training for a lifelong marathon for good health, mind and body fitness and awareness.
Step4
Sign up for a workshop. See local listings in the newspaper or at your favorite yoga studio. There are events in every major city, so if you live in a rural area, treat yourself to a mini vacation/weekend workshop.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice at your level. Ask a teacher to help you choose a class and/or poses suitable for your body and ability level.
  • Consult a doctor before practicing yoga, especially if you are pregnant or have an injury.
