  1. How to Get Good Grades in School

    • 1

Go to bed early and get enough sleep. In order to stay alert and focused in class, you must make sure that you get enough sleep at night. Therefore, it is important that you create a reasonable bedtime schedule and stick to it. So, try getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night (or a little more or less depending on the person‘s needs).

    • 2

Keep a calendar for school. You should develop a system to help you keep up with the due dates for assignments, tests, quizzes and projects. Purchase or create some type of calendar, organizer or daily agenda, to use for all of your school related work.

    • 3

Attend all of your classes and make it there on time. Excessive absences can really affect your grades and academic performance. Basically, you can not learn anything if you are not present in class. So, it is mandatory that you go to your classes and get there on time.

    • 4

Pay attention in class. Be sure to listen to your teacher and pay attention to the class lectures. Your teacher discusses important information that you must know in order to do well on your assignments and to pass your quizzes and tests.

    • 5

Locate a quiet place to study. Perhaps you have a study room at home or maybe you’re able to study in your bedroom. You might even enjoy going to the library to study and do your homework. Try choosing a study area that is quiet and away from distractions.

    • 6

Read your textbook and other materials. In order to help you better understand the lesson, you must take time to read the chapters in the textbook. You may also have additional supplemental books or resources for your classes, so be sure to read those materials too. Your teacher may assign you chapters to read for the next day, so make sure that you complete the reading assignments so you can be prepared for the next classroom session.

    • 7

Complete all of your homework. It is important that you finish your homework in a timely manner. Your teacher gives you the due dates for every assignment and you must see to it that you complete the work on time. If you do not complete your homework on time, your teacher may refuse to accept the late assignments (unless you have a valid and approved excuse) or he may deduct points for turning it in late.

    • 8

Study for tests and quizzes. You can prepare for tests and examinations by reviewing your material and lesson as often as possible. Try creating a review sheet to help you study and form a study group with your peers. Be sure to do practice questions and review the questions that you answered incorrectly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that you ask your teacher questions if you do not understand something. You can ask your teacher for help during class or meet with her before or after class. Always remember that there are no stupid questions, so do not feel afraid to go to your teacher for help.

  • Be sure to relax and get plenty of rest. You do not want to overwork yourself and your brain needs to rest too.
