How to Make Your Face Fresh for a Day

  1. Step 1

Begin by washing your face to remove all dirt, grime and every trace of yesterday's makeup. Pat dry, smooth on moisturizer and make sure that it has absorbed into your skin before you apply makeup. A trick to remove excess is to lightly press a facial tissue onto your skin before beginning your makeup application. A greasy face looks dirty and is not conducive to lasting makeup.

  2. Step 2

Apply a makeup primer before foundation to help set your makeup. Do the same for your eyeshadow by smoothing on an eye makeup base. From lash line to slightly past the crease, use a flesh-toned eyeshadow that is light with a subtle shimmer .

  3. Step 3

Look into using a lightweight foundation with tiny reflective particles that make your complexion glow, or a mineral makeup powder. Anything heavier will weigh you down, and is anathema to staying fresh-faced over the course of a day. Dot on and blend a tiny amount of undereye concealer if a little extra coverage is necessary to brighten your eyes.

  4. Step 4

Brighten up the whites of your eyes with a blue eyeliner lightly smudged into your lower lash line. If you are tired and red eyes are getting in the way of your fresh face, you might also want to try eyedrops that get rid of bloodshot eyes. Skip the mascara, or at least forego application on your lower lashes to minimize smudging. A waterproof formula is best.

  5. Step 5

Pick a blush that looks just like your own natural glow, and blend seamlessly into the apples of your cheeks. Now is not the time to experiment with crazy, funky blush colors that leave you looking bruised.

  6. Step 6

Prettify your lips with a light rosy gloss. Stay away from waxy, heavy lipstick and too bright or dark lip colors for today.

  7. Step 7

Carry facial oil blotters with you to remove unsightly oils from your face. Use those with no powder to avoid adding more product to your skin. Rejuvenate your skin and makeup later in the day with a refresher spray that delivers a very fine mist. Touch up as needed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Select makeup colors that are sheer to allow your skin to show through. Steer clear as well of formulas and textures that are unnecessarily heavy. This gives you a lighter, more vibrant, less weighted-down appearance.
  • Obvious lines in your foundation or blush, and eyeshadow that seems drawn on are freshness killers. Remember to blend!
