  1. How to Make Your Own Skateboard Ramps

    • 1

First design and measure for your ramp. If you are building a quarter pipe, choose a height, transition and amount of vert.

    • 2

Draw the curve of the ramp or the transition on a piece of play wood, for a quarter pipe or small jump, you will need two of these sections cut exactly the same.

    • 3

After you have cut your transition, it is time to lay down the skeleton of the ramp. Cut several 2x6 (if you are building a large quarter pipe) or 2x4 boards to the width of the ramp.

    • 4

Then fasten them to the two side pieces, following the curve of the ramp. Secure two or three boards across the bottom of the ramp, and brace these with cross boards if necessary.

    • 5

Cut plywood, skatelite, masonite, or another bendable, smooth material to the length and width of the skateboard ramp, measuring the curve itself for the length. Then attach this material to the ramp skeleton using nails or screws.

    • 6

Make sure your ramp is sturdy and has a good base. Now, you have learned how to build your own skateboard ramp.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always build a substantial structure for you ramp if you are building a large half pipe. The size of your under structure will reflect how big the ramp is. If you are building a jump ramp, as opposed to a half pipe or quarter pipe, create a shallower transition.

  • Using treated materials will be more expensive but your ramp will last longer, especially if you plan t use it outside. Always wear a helmet when riding your skateboard ramp.
