Aren't sure what to do with your left over paper towel roll? Why not let your kids make a flower out of it. Making a flower from a paper towel roll is not only easy for the youngest of children, but it uses items you are sure to have handy around your house. That means you can make it on a whim. Your child can even use these paper towel flowers to create a centerpiece for your dining room table.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Construction Paper (Green, White, Yellow)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Marker
  • Paper Towel Roll

How to Make a Flower From a Paper Towel Roll

  1. Step 1

Wrap green construction paper around a paper towel roll so you know how much construction paper to cut off. Now cut the construction paper to fit the paper towel roll. You may need an adult to mark what needs to be cut in pencil. Then just cut along the lines.

  2. Step 2

Use glue to paste the green construction strip you just cut on to the paper towel roll. This is going to be the stem of the flower.

  3. Step 3

Now cut out two large oval shapes with the leftover green construction paper to make some petals. Glue the ends on to the bottom of the paper towel roll or near the bottom of the paper towel roll.

  4. Step 4

Now take the yellow piece of construction paper and lay it out flat in front of you. Fold it in half. Tape the ends that are not folded shut. Draw 5 lines beginning at the folded side almost up to the tape. Cut along those 5 lines.

  5. Step 5

Pull the taped edges of the yellow construction paper together and tape closed. Use a stapler if you think this would help it to stay better. Now unfold the edges so that they poof out and slide them on the top of the paper towel roll. If they don't stay by themselves you can glue them in place or use a staple gun.

  6. Step 6

Measure the circle at the top of the paper towel roll and cut out a white circle to match it from white construction paper. Glue the edges and put into place.

  7. Step 7

    Let dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you would like to make a different kind of flower you can use different colored construction paper.
  • If you are too young to use scissors you may want to have your mom or dad do the cutting.
