Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Decide if your problem or question requires a call to the pastor. Discuss your issue with your spouse or close friend to help you decide whether the issue warrants a call. Remember, the pastor is there for everyone in the church and should not be called for minor matters.
Step2
Follow all church protocol prior to calling the pastor. For example, some churches have structured chain of commands to deal with member issues. However, If you feel that the pastor is the only one you feel comfortable speaking with, notify the proper officials.
Step3
Choose a suitable date and time for the phone call. Coordinate with the church secretary or the pastor directly to find the best to call. Avoid calling at late hours unless specifically asked to do so. Respect the pastor's family life and personal time.
Step4
Prepare for the telephone call. Write down the topics you would like to discuss to help relieve any anxiety. Find a quiet room to make the call with as few distractions as possible.
Step5
Identify yourself once on the phone with the pastor. The pastor may have several church congregations under his leadership. Although he may speak to you every Sunday, reminding him of who you are and the reason for your call will help the call flow better.
Step6
Remain respectful while talking with the pastor. Let him finish all his sentences, and be careful not to interrupt him. Telephone calls can be tricky when speaking with someone in authority.
Step7
Listen carefully to any advice or instructions given during the call to your pastor. He has both wisdom and your best interests at heart.
Step8
Keep your call within a reasonable amount of time. Although you may need his attention, your pastor has many things he must attend to during the day. He may be hesitant to cut the call short because he truly cares about you. Be careful. Monitor the time for yourself.
Step9
Thank the pastor sincerely before hanging up the phone. Always let him know how he may have helped you.
